Leaving Tottenham Hotspurs, Jan Vertonghen Officially Joins Benfica

DBasia.news – Jan Vertonghen officially left Tottenham Hotspur and joined the Portuguese club Benfica on Saturday (15/8). Vertonghen officially leaves The Spurs on a free transfer after eight years at The Lilywhites.

The 33-year-old Belgian international made over 300 appearances for The Spurs. Benfica finished runner-up in the Portuguese league last season and will enter the Champions League in the third qualifying round.

Vertonghen has not won a single trophy with Spurs since joining from Ajax in 2012. He was included in the Spurs squad that lost the League Cup final to Chelsea in 2015 and the Champions League final to Liverpool in 2019.

Benfica also announced the recruitment of German striker Luca Waldschmidt from Freiburg and Brazilian forward Everton from Gremio.
